Sonic Brainwave entrainment & changing states of mind

Brainwave entrainment is the brain's natural capacity to synchronize its brainwave frequencies using rhythmic stimuli that can be auditory, visual, or tactile.

We recognize five brainwave states:

Delta(0.5-4Hz), Theta (4-8Hz), Alpha (8-16HZ), Beta (16-32Hz), and Gamma (32Hz<).

Each of these states connects to different processes.

These states link to thought and emotion in the following way; if you are in a specific state of mind, for example, have poor concentration, are very anxious or under pressure, you will produce a unique 'signature' of brainwaves.

Binaural Beats

Binaural Beats were discovered in 1839y. by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove.

Binaural beats fall under audio stimulations for the brain and provide a shortcut to experience deeper states of mind and access to higher states of consciousness in a short amount of time. Entrainment starts occurring after app five minutes of being exposed to binaural wave therapy.

A binaural beat is a phantom frequency perceived by the brain when exposed to 2 different sine wave frequencies, one in the left and one in the right ear.

For example, if we play 100Hz in the left ear and 105Hz in the right ear, the brain's two hemispheres will work in unison to 'hear' the third signal, which is not played. This third phantom frequency, perceived by the brain as a rhythm, is called the binaural beat.

In this case - it will be 5Hz.

Isochronic tones

Unlike binaural beats which are two different (the difference can be max 100Hz) mono continuous sinusoid waves, isochronic tones are produced as a mono or stereo wave which is being turned on and off.

Isochronic tones are single tones that are switched on and off creating sharp, distinctive pulses of sound. In it’s base a isochronic tone is a sound rhythm pattern, vibrating at a certain speed - frequency. They are used, together with binaural beats in the general system called brainwave entrainment.

So, this is the basis, but what is the difference and what does it do?

The main difference between the two approaches is in the way they are applied. For binaural beats to work, it is essential to listen to the therapy on earphones. For Isochronic tones, sonic treatment can be listened to on the speakers while being reproduced in the environment.

With a careful choice of frequencies, you can quickly alter your state of mind.

For example, if you cannot sleep, your brain activity is high, and you cannot relax and rest. When exposed to binaural beats or isochronic tones that enhance delta waves, you will start to fall asleep after a short time.

The brain will entrain by resonating to the frequency in-app 5min, and will change its modus operandi.

When created by a skilled therapist, binaural stimuli and isochronic tones can produce from simple to complex states by combining and overlapping different frequencies.

For example, when somebody shows abnormal brainwave patterns (ex. ADHD), it is possible to train the brain to a more stable, regular rhythm pattern. By regulating an average amplitude of low Beta, high Alpha, and Gamma brainwaves, the brain will be entrained to a steady rhythm, resulting in a relaxed but focused state with enhanced concentration, attention, and learning capacity, which can be very efficient for ADHD disorders.

That is how we can influence our brain and control our states of mind - I like to call it smart body and mind management.

Using binaural beat and isochronic tones stimuli, you can manage your mood, emotional states, sleeping, stress, focus, creativity, different forms of awareness, and many more. Almost all body and mind functions can be in some way and amount influenced by a binaural beat stimulant.

Binaural beats and isochronoc tones can be created digitally and analogously using different combinations of tuning forks. I use both in my therapies but prefer analog for its additional harmonics and overtones.

Although the research is still in infancy, new evidence emerges on audio brainwave entrainment every day, showing how useful they are for therapy and self-improvement.

When you decide to put yourself under binaural or isochronic therapy, keep in mind that your brain is affected, so choose carefully what you expose yourself to.

As you can stimulate a positive change, it is also possible to go in the opposite direction. That is why all brainwave entrainment used in my therapies is safe to use, produced in the highest quality, following tested protocols of the Sound Healing Academy.
